The superhighway was also presumably used for foot traffic and allowed Mayans to travel around the site easily as they transported goods in and out of their villages. Based on the first images, the Mayans took care of their highway and improved or altered it as necessary to accommodate their lifestyle and needs.
Scientists and archaeologists will continue to use LIDAR to learn more about the superhighway and adjust their theories even more. It remains to be seen if they will excavate the highway from the depths of the ground under the Mayan civilization site.
